Are you giving the plant-based diet a go this January? Whether you’re trying it out for a limited time (hello, Veganuary), are flexitarian or are already a full-time plant-based lifestyle convert, we’ve put together our top picks for vegan eating in Hereford.
1. 'The Vegan' at The Den
If you love to start the day with a filling breakfast, then you don’t have to miss out for Veganuary - just head down to The Den on Bridge Street. Their breakfast menu has something for everyone and features a vegan breakfast to die for. Rosemary and red onion sausage and potato cake are the stars of the show but the Den team are always happy to customise your breakfast to suit you.
2. Dairy-free drinks at Caffe Nero
Re-fuel at Caffe Nero with a hot drink made from your choice of non-dairy milk. This popular Italian coffee chain, located in Eign Gate, offers Oat, Soya and Coconut Milk. Our go-to non-dairy option would have to be the Oat Milk Flat White! What's more, if you fancy something to accompany your coffee and satisfy your sweet tooth, Caffe Nero also have some great vegan cake options to discover too.
3. Annie's Vegan Curry at De Koffie Pot
Nestled on the banks of the River Wye you will find De Koffie Pot. This continental style café-bar is part of the Left Bank Village and well known for its firepits, live music, and wholesome food - including a hearty range of vegan meals. We were spoiled for choice but decided that our pick would have to be Annie’s Sweet Potato and Chickpea Curry. Wonderfully warming on a chilly winter day.
4. 'The Great Imitator' at Nando's
Ok, stay with us on this one. We know Nando’s is synonymous with great tasting chicken dishes but did you know that they also have new, plant-based items on their menu? Perfect for those that love Nando’s trademark spices but want to try something different. Our pick would be the Great Imitator Wrap made with their signature pea-protein Peri-plant Strips, oh and maybe some Peri-Salted Chips on the side.
5. Rainbow Lasagne at Zizzi
If spice and pea-protein aren’t up your street, then classic Italian restaurant chain, Zizzi, have some great vegan options for your next dinner out. Their dishes are warm, comforting and perfect for treating yourself on a cold January day. Our pick would be the colourful Rainbow Lasagne, filled with an array of vegetables and topped with pesto and breadcrumbs – yum.
