High Town Refurbishment Works

Herefordshire Council have secured funding to continue with the Hereford City Centre Improvements programme. This includes a project that will undertake improvement works in the High Town area. These works will comprise improvements to the existing paving to address damaged paving and areas of ponding.

The refurbishment project will help improve the public realm in the city centre, which will make the area more attractive for shoppers, traders and businesses. It builds on the works undertaken in Widemarsh Street, High Street and Commercial Street over recent years and the introduction of new tree planters in 2021.

WHO?

Balfour Beatty Living Places will be undertaking the High Town Refurbishment works on behalf of Herefordshire Council. We will act as your point of contact and liaise with you throughout the duration of the works.

WHERE?

The upcoming works will cover the central area of High Town, from High Street to Commercial Street, and St Peters Street from the Black and White House to St Peters Square.

WHEN?

Refurbishment works are planned to commence at the beginning of March in the central area. Works in St Peters Street will commence in mid-May following the May Fair.

HOW?

The works in the central area will be localised improvements to areas of defective paving. Each area will be fenced off locally and pedestrian access will be maintained around these areas. In St Peters Street, works will be more extensive and will be undertaken in phases to ensure that access in the street is maintained. A closure will be implemented whilst works at the gated entrance are carried out. Any works immediate to doorways will be undertaken outside of business hours and we will liaise separately with properties regarding this.

Some areas of the works in the central area will be adjacent your street trading operation. Whilst we do not anticipate any significant impacts, we are keen to liaise on how we can ensure that we are able to operate safely and with minimum impact to your customers. If we can meet you on site in High Town, we can discuss this and finalise arrangements.
