Have yourself a Hereford City Christmas: Part 1

Hereford City’s old world charm really shines in the glitter of the festive season lending a lovely friendly ambience at this most wonderful time of year. In Part 1 of our Hereford City Christmas, we cover some of the fantastic shopping opportunities in Hereford, plus some fun activities for families! 

 

Free Parking and Late Night Opening

Parking is made super-easy for the reindeer run-up with free parking after 4pm on Wednesdays 8, 15 and 22 December in the Council operated ‘Pay and Display’ carparks in the City Centre, including Maylord Shopping Centre, Old Market Shopping Centre and on-street parking. (Please note that Friar Street and private car parks are excluded from this offer.)

Shops will also be open later than usual on those dates so that you can enjoy your present buying without having to cram it all into the weekend, and meet up with friends for a festive tipple or supper while you’re out. Keep an eye out for the Late Night Shopping posters in shops to see who will be open!

Shopping Events

Joining the many countywide independent and community seasonal markets, Hereford City has some wonderful Christmas Craft, Food and Arts fairs happening on various dates.

Hereford Etsy Christmas Craft Fair runs on 27 & 28 November 10am-4pm at Hereford Football Club.

Browse local makers and creative’s products from homewares, pet gifts, art, glassware, clothing, cards and much more. Entry is FREE and the first 20 people through the door each day will receive a goodie bag, with handmade items and money off vouchers.

The annual Boffy Arts Market will this year be at the Old Market Shopping Centre on 13 November. Painters, jewellers, potters, woodturners, photographers, textiles workers, illustrators and fused glass makers will all be showing their artisan wares for something unique to buy.

Hereford Cathedral Christmas Fair will have over forty stallholders in the magical Nave of the Cathedral on Saturday 18 December from 9.30am – 4.00pm. Featuring homemade produce, handcrafted items and plenty of gift ideas, entry is free and there will also be carol singing in Cathedral Close at 12noon.

Family Fun

The Courtyard Panto is Jack and the Beanstalk, running from 26 November until 6 January, Oh yes it is! Complete with a dastardly villain, a hapless comic and hilarious panto dame, as well as bags of slapstick fun it features all the ingredients for the perfect Christmas family treat.

The Waterworks Museum has added additional In Steam Days on 21 November and 21 December, perfect for if you have visiting family and want to do something for all ages where you can see their incredible steam pumps in enthralling action.

Enchanted Kingdom Take your seats from 4 – 24 December and get ready to be taken on an all singing, all dancing extravaganza of your favourite Christmas songs. Join Jack Frost, The Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker on their festive adventure to find the true meaning of Christmas before stepping into the Grotto to meet the real, authentic Santa Claus. Special gifts and photo opportunities with the characters top off this enchanting occasion.

A 'Christmas Spectacular' of world class walkabout performers, live bands and the ‘Hereford Gift Card Golden Ticket Treasure Hunt’ are also just some of the exciting plans lined up for Hereford this December. Entertainment around the City will include acts such as iGlobot - a giant walking robot that children will love, Nanook the wondering Polar Bear with his special friend, Xania the Ice Fairy, or Mysterian, the famous street magician, in combination with a program of live music.
