The Courtyard’s Nell Gwynne Studio will be host to
The Rod Kelly Trio this July. The band’s repertoire
includes a selection from a wide variety of styles and tunes; from Fats Waller to Herbie Hancock, via Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Thelonius Monk, plus standards from the great American songbook, (Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin),
Latin and blues, and some originals too.
Guests can enjoy a one course dinner of Sticky glazed belly pork, roast carrots, dauphinoise potatoes, stuffed cabbage
(vegetarian and vegan options available featuring a beetroot and leek wellington) prepared by The Courtyard’s Food and Drink team.
The Rod Kelly trio comprises Rod Kelly on piano and vocals, Clive Morton on double bass and Roger Powell on drums.
After wide experience in London, including spells at Ronnie Scott’s, Rod led his own much-praised sextet from 1963 to 1987, and this trio since 1994. He’s toured with some of the greats of American jazz, such as Spike Robinson, Billy Butterfield, ‘Downbeat’ poll-winning singer Joe Lee Wilson, as well as top UK jazz stars like Bobbie Wellins, Dick Pearce, Tommy Whittle, Danny Moss, Alan Skidmore and many others.
