Vacancy - COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCE & SYSTEMS LEAD
Vacancy - The Coffee Cart Company Ltd
Hereford | Full Time
£43,000 basic + up to £7,000 performance-related bonus | OTE £50,000
IMPLEMENT THE SYSTEMS → TRUST THE DATA → UNDERSTAND PERFORMANCE → ACT → MEASURE → IMPROVE
A rare opportunity to own the connection between systems, data and commercial performance
The Coffee Cart Company is a growing, multi-site hospitality business with approximately £3m annual turnover.
We have invested significantly in building a modern technology and reporting platform across the business, covering areas including EPOS and transactions, workforce management, stock and purchasing, recipes and waste, customer engagement, digital ordering, finance and management reporting.
Much of the technology is already selected and implementation is underway.
We are now looking for someone exceptional to finish the job, embed it properly and then turn the information it creates into measurable commercial improvement.
This is not an IT support role. It is not a traditional finance analyst role where success ends with producing a report. And it is not a project-management role where success ends when a system goes live.
The Opportunity
Initially, your priority will be to complete, stabilise and embed the company's technology-enabled operating platform.
You will work hands-on with our chosen systems, integrations, managers and external partners to ensure the technology actually works in the real business - not simply that it has technically been implemented.
That means establishing reliable processes, accurate data, effective integrations, useful reporting and genuine adoption by managers and teams.
Once that foundation is stable, the emphasis of the role increasingly moves towards commercial performance.
You will use the information generated across the business to understand what is really happening with:
- Sales and transaction performance;
- Gross profit and margin;
- Labour and productivity;
- Stock, purchasing and waste;
- Recipes and product performance;
- Operational KPIs;
- Cost control;
- Customer behaviour; and
- The commercial return being generated from our systems and processes.
Crucially, you won't simply report what you find. If performance is off target, we expect you to identify why, work directly with the relevant manager to agree what needs to change, and remain involved until the action has happened and the result can be measured.
What You Will Own
Phase 1 - Complete, Stabilise & Embed
- Complete and optimise the implementation of our chosen operational and commercial systems;
- Make sure integrations and data flows work reliably;
- Validate the quality and accuracy of the information being produced;
- Establish trusted reporting across sales, labour, GP, stock, waste and other key measures;
- Build practical workflows, SOPs and management routines around the systems;
- Work directly with managers and teams to achieve genuine adoption;
- Train and support users where necessary;
- Resolve implementation problems rather than allowing them to remain permanently "in progress";
- Ensure customer-facing technology works effectively; and
- Create a stable business-as-usual operating model.
Phase 2 - Turn the Platform into Performance
- Analyse performance across sites and functions;
- Identify material variances, risks and opportunities;
- Turn information into clear actions, targets and deadlines;
- Work directly with managers to implement corrective action;
- Follow through until the commercial result is visible;
- Improve reporting so management can quickly see what matters;
- Identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve margin and increase productivity;
- Measure the return generated by technology and process improvements; and
- Continually improve how information and systems are used across the company.
The Person We Are Looking For
The right person will probably be difficult to describe with a conventional job title.
You may have developed through commercial finance, business analysis, hospitality systems, operations, implementation or a combination of these. Your background matters less than your ability to join the dots and get things done.
You will be:
- Commercially numerate and comfortable interrogating business performance;
- Confident working with operational technology and understanding how systems connect;
- Highly capable with data, reporting and spreadsheets;
- Naturally curious when numbers or processes do not look right;
- Comfortable moving between detailed implementation work and higher-level commercial analysis;
- Able to communicate clearly with founders, managers, operational teams and external partners;
- Prepared to challenge constructively when something is not working;
- Organised enough to manage multiple interconnected projects without losing momentum;
- Comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting for somebody else to solve the problem; and
- Motivated by seeing a measurable result rather than simply completing a task.
Experience in hospitality, retail or another high-volume, multi-site operating environment would be particularly valuable.
What This Role Is Not
We want to be particularly clear about this.
We are not looking for somebody who wants to spend their time producing dashboards and emailing them to management.
We are not looking for somebody who coordinates technology suppliers but expects somebody else to make implementation happen.
And we are not looking for somebody who considers the job complete once they have identified a problem.
What did you do about it - and did the result improve?
That mentality sits at the heart of this role.
Package
- Salary: £43,000 per annum
- Performance-related bonus: Up to £7,000 per annum
- OTE: £50,000
The bonus is intended to reward measurable additional commercial value created through your own contribution.
It is not simply a reward for business improvements that would have happened anyway, savings already built into previously purchased systems, or projects that were already committed.
We want exceptional performance to be capable of producing exceptional reward - but it must be demonstrable.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to join a growing independent business at an unusually interesting point in its development.
The technology investment has largely been made. The operating platform is being built. The next challenge is making all of it work together - and then using it to make the business demonstrably better.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to become the long-term owner of the connection between systems, trusted information and commercial performance across the Coffee Cart business.
If you enjoy taking something that is 70% complete and getting it to 100% - and then asking “what value can we create from it now?” - we would like to hear from you.
How to Apply
Please send your CV plus a short introduction covering:
1. Your hospitality experience or understanding
2. Your technology, systems or implementation experience
3. One example of something you personally helped implement or get over the line
4. Why this six-month project interests you
We are more interested in what you have actually delivered and how you think than in a generic covering letter.
