Smaritans Herefordshire Need Your Support

Samaritans has a vision is that fewer people die by suicide.

Life can be wonderful, but at the same time it can be tough. I in 4 of us have had suicidal thoughts. Every 10 seconds across the UK we answer a call for help. Thousands of volunteers are there every day and night to answer those calls, listening without judgment. Making sure there’s always someone to listen if you’re in crisis or feeling suicidal.

Samaritans have been in Hereford since 1972. We currently have around 90 unpaid volunteers and are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, answering the phone to people who are in a state of emotional distress, suffering with suicidal thoughts or who are actively suicidal. Twice a week we are open through the night to take those calls.

While part of the national Samaritans organisation, Herefordshire Samaritans is an independent charity that receives no funding from the central office. We are therefore entirely dependent upon our own fundraising efforts and the generosity of our donors to keep our service going.

If you would like to help, whether by personal donation, organising a fund-raising event for charity, taking part in a sponsored event, are thinking about a will bequest or your business would consider a corporate sponsorship, we’d love to hear from you.  Please contact fundraising@herefordshire-samaritans.org

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we welcome applications from a wide range of applicants.

Anyone has it in them to be a Samaritan. You won’t need to have previous experience or qualifications, but you need to be non-judgemental and accepting of others.

Whatever your life experiences, what matters is that you want to help people – all kinds of people, from all walks of life.
