Hereford in Tier 2

Despite the initial disappointment for many following news that Hereford will be in Tier 2 post-lockdown, the team at Hereford City Life are keen to show that there's still lots to enjoy in Hereford and plenty of ways you can support your favourite local businesses, while following the new rules!

Once lockdown ends, lots of businesses will reopen in Hereford city centre. You'll be able to visit the gym, go out for dinner, shop at your favourite independent and national stores and even visit your hairdresser, which is great news if you're due a pre-Christmas haircut.

From Wednesday 2nd December, essential and non-essential retailers (including indoor and outdoor markets) can open. If you’ve still got some last-minute shopping to do, you might be pleased to hear that, Late Night Shopping and free parking after 4pm* on Wednesdays in December will be going ahead. If you’re looking for gift ideas, you can also find a fantastic selection of gift ideas and festive feasting options in Hereford via trails on the LoyalFree app!

Restaurants and cafes will also be able to reopen from the 2nd, so you can head into town for a meal before you tackle that Christmas shopping list. Don’t forget that, if you’re planning to meet up with friends, in Tier 2, you can’t socialise indoors with anyone you don’t live with (or isn’t in your bubble) and the rule of 6 will apply outdoors. Some restaurants, such as The Yard (Rule of Tum) will offer outdoor dining options for groups of 6, so look out for those. Don’t forget, in Tier 2 restaurants have to close at 11pm, with last orders at 10pm, so bare this in mind when planning your evening.

We’re sad to say that pubs and bars (that can’t operate as a restaurant) won’t be reopening just yet. However, some of our favourite drinking spots are offering takeaway or online ordering as an alternative, for example, if you're looking for boozy present inspiration, both Gordon Bennetts and Beer in Hand have gift sets available on their websites.

We hope you’re able to safely visit Hereford this festive season to enjoy the Christmas lights and all that the city and its businesses have to offer. As always, remember your face covering, wash your hands and stay safe!

You can find more information from the government about local tier restrictions here.

*free parking from 4pm applies to all council car parks, on-street pay & display and the Old Market car park on Wednesday 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd December 2020.
