The Courtyard host online sessions for Children’s Mental Health Week

The Courtyard is delighted to be hosting a range of free online sessions in support of Children’s Mental Health Week this February.

Place2Be launched the first ever Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015 to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health. Now in its seventh year, the week has been given the theme of Express Yourself for 2021.

With that in mind, from Monday 1 - Friday 5 February, families and schools can visit The Courtyard’s Facebook page at 10am where a range of practitioners will be delivering 45 minute workshops via Facebook Live covering a variety of different disciplines, all providing children an opportunity to express themselves.

Launching The Courtyard’s Children’s Mental Health Week workshops is a session full of creative drama games that will get participants smiling and their imaginations sparked. The Drama Games session will be suitable for ages 8-13 and is the ideal opportunity to start the week off with some fun.

Tuesday’s session Sing Your Socks Off will focus on singing and is guaranteed to lift the spirits of those taking part. Proven to reduce stress, stimulate the immune system and improve mood, singing is the perfect way to get endorphins flowing and this session promises to do just that. Suitable for ages 8-13.

Next up is a Yoga For Kids workshop, ideal for those aged 5-11. Yoga teacher Bex White will help participants to explore how their bodies can move and change and how this makes them feel. Through dynamic postures and easy, calming breathing exercises this session will help children to quieten their minds, culminating in a soothing relaxation.

On Thursday, Toni Cook and Harvey Williams will be running Immediate Poetry Making, exploring fun and accessible ways to make some immediate poetry and perform it. The session is aimed at ages 8-13 but can be enjoyed by all.

Finally, to close the Children’s Mental Health Week sessions, Courtyard Community Education Officer Rebecca Cook will be hosting an interactive dance class for ages 5-11. Rebecca will be encouraging participants to shake their hips, wave their hands and get grooving in this fun dance workshop.

All sessions can be accessed for free via The Courtyard’s Facebook page. The workshops will begin each morning at 10am and will last for approximately 45 minutes.
